Footballer Billy Wright was a pioneer.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender became the first international player to earn 100 caps for his country , during an England career that ran from 1946 to 1959.
He also captained his country 90 times, a record that stands to this day and looks unlikely to be broken any time soon.
Billy Wright and Joy Beverley
As one of the first celebrity marriages, their wedding in 1958 was pioneering in itself, and paved the way for future England footballer/chart-topping singer couplings such as Posh and Becks, Ashley Cole and Cheryl Tweedy.
I‘m excited to be able to tell you that we have a remarkable menu from the banquet held in 1959 to celebrate Wright’s 100th cap. It includes many famous autographs, including future England manager Alf Ramsey, the Preston plumber Tom Finney, as well as those Beverley Sisters. A true period piece.
